Why This Discussion about Raiding is Dumb and You All Should Stop Talking

IniarIniar Member Posts: 3,213 ✭✭✭✭✭
I hate all of you.

Stop talking about raiding, because none of you make sense.

1. People don't like being raided because they don't like losing. Period. Money, time, deaths, whatever. IT. IS. FINE. WE. GET. IT. PEOPLE. DON'T. LIKE. TO. LOSE. It doesn't matter what the effing system is, the people who can't take losing are the people who will not like any conflict system. Sure, some places can be free of losing. Done. It is fine!

2. People don't actually go to shardfalls/whatever for PK. Shardfalls are not PK events - they are a 'oh crap, I'm getting hit, time to run away' event. This is the same of all the other PK systems, even CHAMPIONS, -excepting- Obelisks. Anyone who talks about Obelisks should be slapped in the face. Twice. At least.

3. AM people - if you want to force a fight, go hard on defiling some Leechwood shrines. There are at least 333 shrines Iniar knows of, and Conquest only holds 99 of them. (lol) They don't want to defend them, FINE. They'll LOSE THEM. (@Dec, fix this crap-tastic thing about undefiling. What the eff man.)

4. Classes aren't the problem - THEY'RE ALL CRAPPY. (Except Bard (That's right, Bard))

5. I drained siege because I could. THIS IS A BAD REASON. SIEGE SHOULD NOT EXIST. WHY DOES SIEGE EVEN EXIST. STAHP.

6. Ditto with guards.

7. Cities. are. making. bounties. irrelevant. Someone like Caelya is gonna crank up a bounty, then sit in Khandava siege line for 20 IRL days straight. THIS. GIVES. ME. THE. S**TS.

8. STOP. BEING. SO. B*TCHY... ALL OF YOU.

RAIDING IS NOT THE PROBLEM.

IT IS A SYMPTOM.

DELETE RAIDING. MAKE OBELISKS FUN. GDI. GFDI. STOP COMPLAINING.

I hate you all.

We've tried this, but Leechwood keeps surrendering and refusing to fight. They just go around dropping multiple Aegis relics into everything which makes the shrines effectively unkillable, which is really pretty funny, honestly.

I mean, when Leechwood was roughing up on Dream, it was because they totally had perfectly legitimate reasons to go punching so far under their weight class and it was overpowered and lame when Dream used relics to prevent it. On the other hand, when Conquest decides to go punch down a tier or two it's because they're griefers and it's perfectly fine to stonewall the conflict with relics.

    Funny how that works, really.

Ignoring Khizan's standard crazy revisionism for a moment, it boils down to the fact that players are largely divided between 'party lines' on what they want out of the game. One side has the overwhelming majority of PK weight and people are less keen on fighting against that, so they go do other things they find more enjoyable. So long as the vast majority of people looking to 'encourage conflict' are all on the same side, they're going to feel bored and the other side is going to feel griefed.

It's easy to pick out individual symptoms and problems, but if raiding, etc. weren't the current hot topic of contention, something else would drop right into its place and there would be a whirlwind of complaining about that.

Found the perfect song to describe raiding:

    "Beat It"

They told him, "Don't you ever come around here. (SIEGE)
Don't wanna see your face. You better disappear." (KAI BANISH)
The fire's in their eyes and their words are really clear (BOUNTY INIAR)
So beat it, just beat it

You better run, you better do what you can (PATHFINDER HOME)
Don't wanna see no blood, don't be a macho man (SHARD WALL)
You wanna be tough, better do what you can (ENEMY INIAR)
So beat it, but you wanna be bad (YURII)

    [Chorus]
Just beat it, beat it, beat it, beat it
No one wants to be defeated - SO TRUE
Showin' how funky strong is your fight - SECT HIGHFAVOUR INIAR
It doesn't matter who's wrong or right - JEREMY IS

Just RAID it, RAID it [4x]

They're out to get you, better leave while you can (TUMBLE)
Don't wanna be a boy, you wanna be a man (TWIST RING)
You wanna stay alive, better do what you can (MARK RETURN)
So beat it, just beat it

You have to show them that you're really not scared (JOIN QUEUE FFA)
You're playin' with your life, this ain't no truth or dare (STARBURST)
They'll kick you, then they beat you, then they'll tell you it's fair (www.forums.imperian.com)
So beat it, but you wanna be bad (RANKINGS PK)

    [Chorus]
Just beat it, beat it, beat it, beat it
No one wants to be defeated
Showin' how funky strong is your fight

I envision a world, where raiding will have stricter rules. 2 hours max and 10 hour cooldown.

     muahhahaha.

Clearly, the solution is to have registry of artifact fighters and to evenly distribute them across the different circles so everything will always be balanced.

We've tried combat capitalism already, and clearly, the strong get stronger and the weak get weaker! Let's try another system!

We already solved this problem once before.

    Eight players.
    No Circles.
    All Iniar.

You say, "This is much harder than just being a normal person."

This is the single best thread I've read here in an eternity.

Between #combatcommunism and #feelthegurn .. I laughed in the real world.
